Annie Mae McKoy

Words could never capture completely the richness and beauty of our mom's life and legacy. Annie Mae Bradley-McKoy was born September 10, 1939, in Sister welcome (Lake City), FL. to the late Ozie Bradley of Rochelle, Fl and Luevenia Platt-Walker of Blountstown, FL. A graduate of Lincoln High School. Lived in Gainesville, FL all her adult life. She was a devoted wife to Morris McKoy (preceded in death) for 29 1/2 years, and mother to three children; James Booth (Kevin), Wife, Rebecca; Timmeshia McKoy, and Juliana McKoy; three siblings; Larry Platt Sr. (preceded in death), sisters; Gloria Gene Foremen (preceded in death), Lola McNeal, husband Ronald McNeal, three grands; Sebastian Galva, Carter Jackson, Camryn Clark, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a dear friend to so many, she was one of a kind. Annie worked for the State of Florida, Sunland Facility 1, Speech Vocational Tech. for 31 years training the mentally challenged to communicate their needs and wants to others. One of the many characteristics of Annie that still puts a smile on our face is the way she was able to make friends so easily with the people that came into her life. Whether it was the neighbor next door, or a community of people, or just a person she may have met at the store, no one was ever really a 'stranger' to her. To God be the glory for the things He has done. Her church affiliation includes Friendship Baptist Church, Gainesville, FL where she was a delegate of Mt. Sinai Congress of Christian Education Convention. Later joining Johnson Chapel Missionary Baptist church where her father was a member. She served as Superintendent for Sunday morning church school; choir member; member of Jerusalem District congress of Christian Education; Vacation Bible School; Mission ministry, Women Auxiliary, 4 years as 1st VP for the Jerusalem Congress of Christian Education, 3 years as President of the Jerusalem Congress of Christian Education; Secretary and first female member of the State Home Mission Auxiliary. She served on the Barbara Higgins scholarship committee; Board of Director for Family Christian Association of America, Miami, Fl., President and CEO of Gainesville Family Community Outreach, Inc.; nominated for the Community Spirit Award for work with the Phoenix Apartment residents as director of BLM. Her faith and the love of her family and friends carried her through that difficult chapter in her life. During her illness, I don't know what we would have done without the caring 'angels' from hospice. They were very attentively preparing for her transition into eternity. We would like to acknowledge some very special people, Mr. Fred Roberson, Mr. Darrell Peterson, Ms. Annette Peterson-Sloan, Mrs. Naomi McCray, Ms. Lettie Anderson, Ms. Wanda Latta, Ms. Pamela Jones, for your love and care during her final days on this earth. Annie's most endearing quality, of course, was her love and faith in the Lord Jesus. Her faith was far more than a one day a week experience for her. As a faithful member of Johnson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, her faith and abiding love for the Lord shaped who she was for all of us.
