Mrs. Maggie Blake

Mrs. Maggie Mae Blake, 88, passed away on October 29, 2023 at North Florida Rehabilitation and Specialty Care Center. Mrs. Blake was born on June 14, 1935 in Madison, Florida to the late Mr. Wesley and Mrs. Annie Mae (Jones) Lyons. Maggie spent her early years in Madison, where she was baptized at Sweet Hope Baptist Church. She later moved to Live Oak, Florida and was educated in the Suwannee County School System. In 1954 she moved to Gainesville, Florida and later joined Faith Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member. Maggie was blessed with a devoted son, Johnny Carl Blake, Jr., a wonderful daughter, the late Geraldine Loretta Thompson, and a caring granddaughter, Angela Michelle McKinney. She was known as "Aunt Maggie" to a host of others that she nurtured and assisted in their rearing. Maggie was an avid reader, with fiction novels being her favorite. She also enjoyed completing Seek and Search Word Finds. On Sunday, October 29, 2023, the Angel of our Heavenly Father came and took her home to be with the Lord. She is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Johnnie Blake, Jr. She leaves to cherish beautiful memories; her son, Johnnie Carl Blake (Hattie); daughter, Wanda Blake (Alphonso) both of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren, Angela McKinney of Miami Florida, Korey White (Iris) of Clermont, FL, Karla Blake Howard (Johnathan) of Orlando, FL, Tonya Blake Bryant (Vernon) of Tampa, FL; great Grand Children: LaStacia McKinney, Daija McKinney, Jarvis McKinney, Corey White, Kameron White, Malik White, and Kaleb White; great-grandchildren, Leilani Hill, Jalani Hill, Sarai Hill, Saige Bush, and Timothy Howard; brother, Robert Lyons (Patricia) of Gainesville, FL; sisters, Elizabeth Hudson of Gainesville, FL, Christine Harper (Dexter) of Atlanta, GA; devoted great-nephew, Nicholas Thompson; committed niece, LaWanda Lyons; and caretaker and niece, LaKetia Jackson; god-children, Charles Jenkins (Linda), Jose Brown, Kayla Ramos, Katrina Ramos, and Korey McCloud; special friends, Ms. Donna and Ms. T. of Gainesville, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends We were blessed to have Maggie in our lives for eighty-eight glorious years. To God be the Glory! Visitation for Mrs. Blake will be Friday, November 3, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Chestnut Memorial Chapel, 18 NW 8th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32601. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 11:00 at Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 2905 SE 21st Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32641, Rev. Kevin Thorpe, Officiating Pastor. Interment will follow immediately in Eastside Memorial Cemetery, 522 Eva Avenue NE, Live Oak, FL 32064. The Chestnut family and staff offer our deepest condolences to the Blake family.
