Joseph E. Jones-Avery

Joseph E. Jones-Avery, Jr. was born on September 18, 1942, to Joseph Henry E. Avery and Ora Mae Jones in Tallahassee, Florida. He fell asleep in death on August 10, 2021, in Tampa, Florida with loved ones by his side. He is preceded in death by his mother, Ora Mae Jones. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 57 years, Mable Jones-Avery, his father, Joseph Henry E. Avery, five children; Jsana Jones, Katherine Herrmann (Rodney), Micah Jones, Johanna Henderson (Ryan) and Jarvis Jones, four grandchildren; Dominic Jones (Ashlee), Cameron Kyler, Ajsa Taylor and Davin Herrmann; five great-grandchildren; Kaiden, Keneimah, Bella Rose, Kairin and Leo. Joseph is also survived by his loving siblings; Mary Jiles, Cynthia Johnson, Harold C. Jones, Gail Martin (Jackie), Greta Jones Sanders, Delyene Sanford (Bernard), Bernadine (Toni) Boyd, Tammy Anderson, Dellaoise Sanders, Joseph Henry Avery III (Janet), Ginia Avery, Loretta Avery-Pete (Jamal); Loving brother-in-law; John D. Simpkins, Jr. (Venelean) and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. At a young age, Joseph had a particular interest in science and mechanics. He would spend countless hours assembling transistor radios, rockets and etc. As a high school senior he won the state science fair competition. He later used that interest as a Crew Chief Aircraft Mechanic in the U. S. Air Force. After leaving the Air Force he was a Graphic Arts Instructor teaching printing and computer science at a local university. He enjoyed teaching graphic arts until his retirement from the State of Florida. While stationed in Tampa, he met and married Mable Simpkins on November 5, 1964. They enjoyed spending time with their children, biking, riding in their "his and her" Saabs and taking road trips. They also both were keenly interested in getting to know the Creator. After a careful study of the scriptures, they were both baptized as Jehovah's Witnesses on August 26, 1966, in Miami Beach, Florida. They enjoyed regularly attending Christian meetings and sharing the good news they learned with others. They instilled in their children a deep respect for God and a spirit of self-sacrifice on behalf of others. Joseph was viewed as a spiritual father to many both young and old alike.
