Mrs. Roselee Sutherland

Mrs. Roselee James Sutherland, 92, passed away quietly with family at her side on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at University Medical Center in New Orleans Louisiana. Mrs. Sutherland was born in Gainesville, FL to the late Lee James and Rosa Alexander James on November 22, 1930. She attended Lincoln High School in Gainesville and went on to further her education at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN). Later, she attended Columbia University in New York City where she received a Master of Arts Degree from the Teachers College. Her career continued in New York where she worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs as an Associate Chief of Nursing at both the Queens, New York VA Medical Center, and the Brooklyn VA Medical Center. Mrs. Sutherland relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana in January 2021 to be closer to family. Roselee was married to the Love of her Life, the late Cecil S. Sutherland of Kingston, Jamaica. She was a lifelong member of Greater Bethel AME Church where prior to her illness was active in many areas including serving on the Board of Trustees. She was also a member of Links International, Inc., the Florida Retired Educators Association and Excelsior Matrons, Inc. She leaves behind to cherish her memory; nieces and nephews, Elmore James Jr. (Pam), Minneapolis, MN, Donna James Hill, Kennewick, WA, Giles James (Shanelle), New Orleans La, Hildon James (Keevon), Manhattan, NY, Mary James Maurice, New Orleans, LA, Steven James, Houston, TX, Robin James (Kevin), Houston, TX, Diana James (Alma), New Orleans, LA, Oliver James (Darlene), Fairfield, CA, Karen James Lewis (James), Stockbridge, GA, Dione Hayle, Pompano Beach, FL, Pamela Easterling (Stafford), Orlando, FL, Tonya Campbell, Atlanta, GA, Vera Hart, Houston TX, sisters-in-law, Beverly Hayle, Cocoa, FL and Jacqueline Sutherland, Macungie, PA; as well as a host of great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and other beloved family and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Sutherland will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Greater Bethel AME Church, 701 SE 43rd Street, Gainesville, FL 32641, with Rev. Ron Rawls, Officiating.
