Njeria Otika Kamilah McClain Mother, Sister, Aunt, Beloved family member, Friend, and Helper... Njeria was born on May 1, 1973, at Alachua General Hospital. She was the oldest of two children born to Patricia and Gary McClain. Njeria and her family moved from Jonesville to Gainesville where she graduated from Buchholz High School and Santa Fe Community College. She attended both Pleasant Plain UMC and Mt. Pleasant UMC where she formed a deep love and respect for the Lord under the leadership of the now retired Pastor, Reverend Geraldine McClellan. Njeria moved to Tallahassee where she graduated from Florida A& M University. She worked as a Behavioral Therapist first in Tallahassee and later in Brandon, FL. Njeria made numerous friends in Gainesville, Tallahassee and in Brandon. While in Tallahassee, Njeria and Alcolm President became the proud parents of their beloved daughter, Arlaysia. Njeria enjoyed nurturing her daughter, playing games, cooking, shopping, loving on her nieces, and spending time with her family. Njeria was very creative and innovative. She and her Fiancé, Aaron Hawkins, lived in Lakeland, Florida. She departed this life's journey on August 22, 2021. She leaves to cherish fond memories a daughter, Arlaysia; her brother, Gary, his wife Jennifer, and their children McKenzie and Milani; her grandmother, Willa Hughes; aunts, Edith (Charlie Jordan), Janice (Marion Clark), Elaine McClain-Franklin, and Ora Booker; uncles, Percennie Hall (Felicia), Ulysses Fisher; cousins/godparents; Dwaine and Mary Fisher, Delwin Carter and Nkenge Carter, D'Andre and Nicole McClain-Franklin; Njeria's fiancé, Aaron Hawkins and his family; Nana and the Cordovez Family, her extended family, Karen Alexander-McClain, her daughter, Staci and the Alexander Family, and numerous cousins, supporters, and friends too numerous to name. Because of the COVID pandemic, a family hour will be held for Njeria on Saturday, September 4, 2021, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 630 NW 2nd Street, Gainesville, FL 32601. Please follow CDC guidelines for wearing a mask and social distancing. When the world settles and we can meet as a group again, a more formal memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Arlaysia President via Chestnut Funeral Home.
