Rhogeana Fleming

Elder Rhogeana Simmons Fleming, 63, of Gainesville FL was called home to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. Born on May 11, 1957 to the late David and Rhoda Simmons, she grew up in the Liberty City neighborhood of Miami, FL. She graduated high school from Notre Dame Academy, Miami, FL. She later earned a Bachelor of Arts, Master's in Elementary Education and Educational Leadership Specialist degrees from the University of Florida. In 1987, she joined the Alachua County Public School System where she lovingly inspired her Kimball Wiles Elementary School students to endeavor towards educational excellence. She was known as an avid reader. If she had spare time, you would find her captivated by one of her favorite novels. Aside from reading, she was a gifted creative writer. She loved writing and directing plays, as well as, performing alongside her sisters on stage. But her greatest joy came from ministering the Gospel as an elder with the Abiding Faith Christian Church. Not to mention, her immeasurable enjoyment from working with numerous ministries. She especially took pleasure in mission trips to help the impoverished and spread the Gospel to win souls for Christ. She is survived by her devoted husband of 34 years Rev. Walter Leon Fleming Jr., an Assistant Pastor of Abiding Faith Christian Church; three wonderful children, Walter Fleming III, William Fleming (Amanda) and Wesley Fleming; four loving siblings, Waltonnia Nairn, DaVonda Anthony (Foster), David Simmons (Classic), and Donna Bell (Bobby); sister-in-law Kathy Fleming Edwards (Hank) and brother-in-law Frederick Fleming; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews, and Abiding Faith Christian Church family. She is preceded in death by two sisters; Dava Simmons and RhoShawn Simmons and one brother; David B. Simmons, Jr. Viewing from 1:00pm - 6:00 pm, Thursday, April 29, 2021, at the Chestnut Funeral Home, 18 NW 8th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32601. A final viewing will be conducted at 10:00 am, prior to the Celebration of Life at 11:00 am, on Friday, April 30, 2021 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 4000 N.W. 53rd Ave., Gainesville, FL 32653.
