Romelda L. Buchanon

Romelda Louise Buchanon was born on October 31, 1938, in Gainesville, Florida. She was the second child of the late Chester and Luella (Long) Buchanon. Ms. Buchanon was a member of Williams Temple Church of God in Christ. In her service to the church, she served on the Usher Board, Hospitality Committee, and Home Mission Board. Ms. Buchanon also served as a member of the Missionary Department, Primary Department, and as a Sunday School teacher. Ms. Buchanon was a lifelong member of the Female Protective Society Inc. She represented Lodge #2 while running for Queen for Lodge #10 and won. Ms. Buchanon was also a very faithful choir member. Ms. Buchanon graduated from A.L Mebane High School and later attended Santa Fe Community College. Ms. Buchanon was employed at Tacachale Center for over thirty years until retirement. She had a special love for crocheting patterns for family and special friends. Cooking was another favorite; she especially enjoyed feeding her grandchildren, other family members, and friends. Romelda's beautiful spirit was loved and respected by all. Ms. Buchanon transitioned on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at UF Health Shands Gainesville, FL, surrounded by her family. She leaves to cherish her fond memories: one daughter: Pamela Fort, (William) Gainesville, Florida; four grandchildren: Ryan Irving, Kendra Fort, (Curtis), Tracy Robinson, (Georgia) and Erin Fort, Niya Ferguson, (Niece, raised as a grandchild); 13 Great-Grandchildren; two sisters; Idella Ivey, Jonesville, Florida and Altamese Washington, one brother, Chester Buchanon Jr., both of Gainesville, Florida; one aunt: Ellen Jordan, Gainesville, FL; a special friend; Elizabeth Anderson, Gainesville, Florida and a host of her favorite nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Visitation for Ms. Buchanon will be Friday, January 7, 2021, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Chestnut Memorial Chapel, 18 NW 8th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32601. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Plain United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Superintendent Kenyarda T. Feathers Sr., delivering the eulogy.
