Mrs. Ruth Welcome Brown

It is with great sadness, but joyful hearts, that we announce the passing of Ruth Welcome Brown, a beloved mother, grandmother and cherished educator, who departed this life peacefully on April 5, 2025. Ruth Brown was born on January 1, 1930, in Worthington Springs, Florida. She left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Throughout her life, she embodied the spirit of love, education, and family. She dedicated her life to the nurturing and education of countless young minds throughout her 34-year career as a first and third grade teacher, at A. Quinn Jones Elementary and Glen Springs Elementary Schools. Ruth was a devoted wife to her late husband, Eugene H. Brown Sr., with whom she shared a deep and loving bond. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home filled with love, laughter and the importance of education. Ruth was the proud mother of two children, her daughter Regina and son Eugene Jr., both who carry on her legacy of kindness and compassion. As a grandmother, Ruth found immense joy in her role, doting on her grandchildren, Alicia, Marquase and Brianna. She often spoke of them with pride and delight, cherishing every moment spent together. Ruth's passion for teaching began in high school where she admired several teachers with the most influential being Mrs. Frederica M. Jones (Wife of A. Quinn Jones, the principal). Mrs. Jones was caring and helpful, the words used to describe Ruth Brown by her coworkers. Ruth's passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom; she believed in the potential of every child and inspired those around her with unwavering spirit and love for learning. Her students remember her as a patient and encouraging teacher who made learning a joyous experience. She taught students who became dentists, bankers, journalists, a city commissioner, teachers and her own two children, both engineers. In later years, Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, sharing stories of her life experiences. She had a zest for life that touched everyone she met, and her infectious smile will be missed by all. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Eugene H. Brown, Sr., parents, Joseph Bishop and Lena Welcome, one brother, Joseph Bishop Welcome, Jr., three sisters, Marjorie Deloach (Wallace), Mildred James (Alvoid, Sr.), and Mable White (Doode), brothers-in-law, Augustis Brown, Jr. and Joseph Brown, and sister-in-law, Evelyn Brooks. Ruth leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and a commitment to education that will continue to inspire future generations. She is survived by her daughter Regina, son Eugene Jr., son-in-law, Christopher, and her beloved grandchildren, as well as many friends and family members who will forever hold her memory in their hearts. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held Friday, April 18, 2025, at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, where family and friends are invited to honor her remarkable journey and the impact she made on the lives of so many. Rest in peace, dear Ruth, your legacy lives on in the hearts of all who loved you. The service for Mrs. Ruth Brown will be held on Friday, at 1:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.
